    Fun in the rain.

Over the weekend I took a two-day carbine class from Phase Line Green Tactical.

I ran my 12.5" NEA AR with DD fixed BUIS, Aimpoint Comp M2 in an ARMS mount, Magpul MOE grip, and BFG VCAS two-point sling.

The carbine ran like a top. I didn't clean or lube it after the first day as I wanted to find out when it would choke. About halfway through the second day I need to squirt some CLP in to keep it running smoothly. Two days of continuous rain seemed to wash the grease out faster than normal.

I only shot Wolf WPA polymer coated .223 and had zero issues with it. I used a mix of old USGI mags with Magpul followers and Pmags. The Pmags had some issues with rounds squirting out the top when drawing from my mag pouches. Apparently the older generation coloured mags have weak feed lips. I won't be using them for anything other than plinking at the range anymore.

You had "high speed" fun in the rain. This one is more "low drag" and may go days or weeks in the rain without firing a shot. But it puts meat on the table quite well!:

No warping! No worries (if a muzzle protector is used.)

So what length barrel? I've been agonizing over what lightweight sub-16" bbl to get for several years. But the muzzle velocity/termal ballistics loss precludes getting anything ludicrously short.

It's 12.5" gun. I think with 55 gr ball that would give to good terminal performance out past 100m. Of course, the heavier bullets and commercial hunting projectiles make a big difference in effectiveness at lower velocities.

I'm not in to the whole modern quad rail AR scene, but I think that's one sharp looking AR. If I could legally do it in my area, I would build one just like it!

Thanks. I'm not a fan of the quad-rail either. That rifle only has full rails top and bottom, rather than all four sides.
