    Two questions

1 Just picked up 20 rounds of 5.56 tracer rounds made by Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant.
Brass cased and red tipped. Anybody ever shoot this tracer round? Any special cleaning needed after firing?

2 A friend of mine just bought a Savage bolt action rifle and a number of boxes of steel cased ammo called Tul Ammo. First round went off fine but the bolt could not be opened without a mallet. He did not shoot anymore of that and wants to give them to me for my AR as he was told they would function in AR.

I am hesitant, but more so wondering why the case stuck? They were .223. I never saw the cartridge. Oil in the breech? High pressure? What causes a case to stick?

The tracer should not require any special cleaning.

My guess about the stuck case would be a combination of a tight sporting chamber on the Savage and the reduced elasticity of steel cases. The less the case "snaps back" to its original dimensions, the harder it will be to extract.

That said, I've shot lots of steel cased Wolf out of my ARs and not had any issues.

The main problem I have had with Russianicon steel cased 223 ammo is inconsistency and reliability. Some rounds are underpowered and short stroke the action. They are also VERY dirty to shoot. The Laquer and polymer coatings can also stick in chambers when the barrel gets hot. In fact, shooting the AR15 platform since 1974, I have only had a few issues with brass cased ammo (count them on one hand) When I shot Wolf, I had more issues. I would plink with it, but nothing else.

If the ammo is 5,56 spec and the Savage .233 Rem spec, then it may just be a bit of incompatibility between the two. Short throat could have raised pressures enough to stick the steel case. Just a SWAG, but it'll do until more details are known.
