Upgrading a no4 mk1 stock to a no4 mk1/2 stock
From the repair article of the draws by Peter I see an upgrade was done previously to convert the stock during FTR (I assume)

Its shows a nice wee 1/2 round patch, do we have any details on how to do this? ie what was the depth into the wood?
My no4 mk2 stock was "sporterised" by bubba bless him so I have aquired a no4 mk1 un-issued beech stock that I want to do this upgrade to to fit to my gun.
it would be good to know the radius of the cut as well 1/4inch?
thanks

I recently "upgraded" a Mk1 stock, like yours it was new and unissued. Once the strap had been removed I cut an sanded a piece from a damaged forend to fit the existing slot leaving it proud to allow for finishing once the glue had set, do one side at a time so that you can drill through to ensure that the holes line up!! once both sides had been done countersink the holes to the required depth.

Yeah thats how I thought to do it, just Ive seen three different sized and shaped patches now.....2 half round, one small (the above one) one looks about 25mm diameter and a trapezoidal patch in my wee yellow enfield book.

this is a pic of what looks like a 1/2 or 1/3 upgrade to a LB gun

This half round router cut is far bigger than the previous picture.

INserts
I've been collecting pictures of each type of wood insert I've seen. And of course, on the lookout to add to the box.
Here's a few.

The rounder ones LOOK far more professional of course...... Ours were all dovetailed in place too. Don't forget that you've got to put a patch across the rear too

Hi, Yes, I will do the rounder one, I think it will look better as well. Yes, I will do the patch on the rear as well. Im just making up a jig to hold the stock for routeing and "tenoning" through my table saw ie do the cut out where the trigger block is. I need to find some suitable wood as well, beech if I can.
Its winter and hailing here so Im not too interested in standing in the freezing cold garage with the door open so I can run my tools. The hail is 45Deg and getting worse...ikky. July in the UK despite the drawbacks sounds good right now.
