I've seen evidence that contradicts the supposed cutbacks. Including a reply that has the Hornady letterhead. Regardless, supplies will likely remain hard to find for some time, I think. The 2008 ammo shortage took about three years to sort itself.

Everything I'm finding indicates its true. Took no chances an ordered 400 .312 174 BTHP last night, money I didn't want to spend but I have a habit to feed.

Edit: it's official, Hornadays web site has the statement at the top of the page. Get'em while you can!!

Their updated 2013 production list, which may take some poking through to decide whether to panic more than you already are:

I stand corrected. Wasn't all that interested, actually, as I have most of the Hornady projectiles I need for a while, but had read a thread somewhere going on about how they were "cutting production" several days ago that had this note:

Hornady's listing of 2013 production seems to be in reaction to the rumors. Good on 'em!

A friend of mine who owns a large sporting goods store has a letter from Hornandy about the suspended production. Something does not make sense here. But, whatever will be, will be.

So if they are suspending all this, what exactly are they making? What specifically is forcing them to cut back on some to make these others?

The panic is over so where are all these bullets and cartridges going? Perhaps to " homeland security " as has been reported in the media to the tune of 1.1 billion rounds.

I believe if you read through the letter fully it's well explained. They are running the more popular lines longer and reducing selection to minimize downtime on the equipment. As a machinist, I have a great appreciation for the delays in swapping out jobs. Often set-ups take longer than the runs themselves.

They're making more, just maybe not what you want.

I was up at my local gunshop on Friday and the fellow there said he was talking to a Federal sales rep. They are cutting production on some lines also. He said that they had been producing 400,000 rounds per day and are now producing 2 million rounds per day.

Yet the shelves are still empty. Where is it going? I have not seen a normal box of 22 ammo on the shelf in six months.
