Odd ball Mauser 8.15x46r Can't read german!

I got a hand me down mauser with german stickers on it. I would like to know more about it, and what my uncle brought home. The gun has stumped all the appraisers I have talked to (or they want to buy it cheep a lie to me). Then the offer me a few hundred bucks for it and tell me it's not what everybody wants. I don't care how much they would pay. I was one of the only things to get past down to me. I know I would have to have ammo made if I wanted any. I just think it looks cool. the tiger walnut wood and eagle. I just wish I knew what the sticker said. The german translator gives me something different, depending on where I put a space in the lettering. As you can see by the pictures in my profile, the are hard to read. The stickers on the Mauser are Austrian. It probably belonged to an Austrian target shooting gun club. It also looks like it was a 75 year anniversary shoot. The area in Austria is in the mountain area of Insbruck. The ammo is very difficult to fine, so you will probably have to reload. the translation is not easy, so if you want I can call you. I am German and I read and write German.

Thank you! I never would have thought. That must be why it doesn't look like the military 98. The bayonet through me off. I have more pictures in my profile gallery, If that helps. I don't want anybody to pay long distance charges. but thank you very much.

Prior to WWII many German And Austrian towns had shooting clubs..the 8.16x46R was about equal to our .32-40 in power..it was used in many single-shot target rifles and Mauser rifles for civilian rifle competition. After WWI the Germans were not allowed to make military caliber weapons. The Germans continued to keep the arms plants in operation using this caliber when they started making military training rifles in the 20's and early 30's. I have a nice 1930's Mauser repeater in this caliber..a GI bring back in 90% condition. Loaded ammo can be bought online and dies are available from Huntingdon Die Specialties(RCBS).

Your example was used in Tirol-Vorarlberg. That is the district in Austria around Bregenz on Lake Constance (Vorarlberg) and the Innsbruck district (Tirol). Treat the remnants of the sticker very, very carefully!

OMG yes! Because they locate the rifle to a specific time and place. Did you read the thread all the way through? Your local market will be different, but those stickers add on hundreds for some collectors. Removing the stickers would be like tearing up 100-dollar bills.

I guess your right. This is the first time I have enjoyed the gun, just learning the back story. I have never fired it because I could never find any ammo. So it just sat. Now I'm afraid to handle it too much, and can't take it out to the range. I'm now sure what to do with it now. Thanks again to everybody
