Fred Powers in Florida was selling bands just like these a few years back. He insisted they are real but I have my doubts.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. There is an extensive article in CC newsletter # 346 INLAND’S FIRST SERIAL NUMBER BLOCK that covers early barrel finish and barrel band.

The band is not parkerized, it is blued over a roughened (sandblasted) surface. If you are familiar with two tone Inland receivers; they did the same process to early barrels. The barrel/receiver shows the difference in the roughened area and from the muzzle back to about 2 inches in front of the gas cylinder including the front sight and band. The finish is dull not shiny like the rest of the barrel. They were blued as an assembly not as individual parts.

The pictures of the b/r serial 189,--- show its original band and the one in question for comparison.

The other pictures are a NOS Inland Barrel Assembly dated 1-43, it is covered with cosmolineicon. I wiped some off in a couple areas to show the rough texture of the blued finish.
