    I thought this was funny

Had to go to the Sports Store to return an item. I looked at one of their sale signs in hunting and it said," Back to School Special. 10% off steel shot". I thought I was going to pi$$ myself laughing. I pointed it out to one of the clerks and he just shook his head!

That's silly. You don't have to use steel when they're not migratory birds!

I remember the first time I went out of state to hunt. I realized there is a California culture and the rest of the nation. I remember stopping in to buy more food in a Super Market out there. There were these kids wearing Blaze Orange and saying "Have a good hunt !" That was totally alien to us who were there. My friend told me the year before coming home with his buck he was flipped off by everybody he saw in California.

I was just in the LA area and I know what you mean. I saw two surplus stores and the one I went into had nothing very special, I saw one gunstore...I was on Amtrack and would have had to do a running dismount. The headspace there was very different...to say...Oregon.

Yep my son is desperately trying to move to Oregon. He is a big Bicyclist and he loves the people and the culture there. California never used to be that bad but has gotten a whole lot worse in the last 20 years. Yes real Surplus stores are all gone . I used to find real treasures there. I still have some of the surplus I bought as a kid. Most of the Gun Shops in my neighborhood are run by pompous jerks . Some act like your doing them a favor by walking through their door.

I did walk into a pawn shop that had guns, there was a Sig that looked well used. A few sundry rifles...I couldn't buy so why ask? They were just stacked to the rafters with junk and I just slithered out again without touching anything...

I moved up here recently and I love it. Everyone is nice, polite and it is just wonderful. I should have done this years ago.

A buddy from my HS Football team moved up there in the late 80s early 90s. He loves it up there but he kind of misses the So Cal sun but he has adapted. One night playing e-mail tag we got on the subject of old Team mates. One Team mate was quite a character and we spoke at length about him. Out of curiosity he searched for him on Spokeo ( search site ) after we had signed off. He e-mailed me about 15 min later to tell me our Bud lived 3 houses down from him ! They had been neighbors for years and did not know it ! My other friend was up there since the 80s.

I have worked in retail for many years and that sign made me think twice. Not for long tho. I put up a sign that said "Self Esteem Hoodies Only $14.99" once. Took a pic with my cell phone and still have it. Very funny. Sometimes I will find real funny signs sent from corporate and printed out. We had one for "comfort girl handles" autoloading screwdrivers once. Came with a Craftsman guarantee. .)
