The Imperial marking is an inspector's stamp showing that the detachable swivel had been inspected and accepted for use by the military.

The 2 and 77 could be a company number and accountability number - "2nd Company, weapon #77". It is doubtful that the rifle and the swivel have been together since those numbers were stamped on it, but it is possible.

Possible. Wish I could find a way to post the pic of the sling and sling swivel that was regimentally marked.
Back to the night sight. Pretty rare piece?

It really depends on what you mean by nightsight. Lots of fakes, and bodged-together pits out there. Would need to see it to know if it's real, period, and actually a night sight.

WW1 night sights were painted with radium though, so be careful - it's very toxic. Wash your hands after handling and don't breathe any dust coming off it.

Small sight that fits around the barrel right behind the front sight, sight can be flipped up and down, it appears. Apparently there was one for the rear sight as well, but don't have that one. This is identical to night sights I've seen on the net. Definitely has some age to it.

It may well be a real one then. The rear ones are harder to find and worth more. Usually they sell as a set, not sure what just a front one would go for.

Thanks guys! I actually sold this Mauser today, replaced it with a Mauser Model 71, all matching, that apparently went to Uraguay. Going to start a thread on that one soon. I think I may have the picture gremlins beat. We shall see..
