Mystery front height

Greetings all. Purchased what I believe was a parker hale sporter. Barrel was cut to 21.5 inches long, Could anyone please fill me in as to how high the front sight is/was?. Finally got all the copper and crud out of the barrel. Still missing a few parts.And need to bed the front of the reciever and about one inch of the barrel. And then I can take her out to the range I still have the milled rear sight on it but need the height for the front sight. Thanks, Frank

If the barrel has been cut (shortened) then the height of the original sight is irrelevant as the new sight will be closer to the rear sight and it will shoot low. I think you will need to fit a new front sight and then experiment with different size (height) blades

Well its a long branch 1942 with 2 groove barrel. Has a Parker Hale sight ramp up front. What I plan on doing is cut down the ramp about 1/8" and hand cut a devetail for american sights. The ones that fit the regular 3/8 dovetails. And go from there. I have 3 of the parker hale target globe front sights with a card of inserts for each of the 3 globe front sights.Can't see beads worth a darn and in using the globe front sights usually use the one that give me a ring of light around the target. The smaller globe front sights do not have the inserts large enough so I can get good definition. Frank

So let me get this right. What you want me to do is replace the current parker hale sight ramp, than install one that is lower in height and experiment with sight blades of differing heights??. What I could do is cut down the parker hale sight ramp about 3/16" of an inch in height. I have a set of dovetail files so could cut a new dovetail and then play with sight blades or beads to get my point of impact up. I plan on only shooting cast bullets so they normally shoot low anyway. Figured I'd have to use at least the 500yd setting to get the shot printing reasonabley high on the target. If I can swing it hopefully will be able to mount a rear adjustable rear sight. Don't plan on hunting with it as I have mobility problems with my legs and knees. Frank
