Nailing? a new nose cap to an un-issued forestock....

I have managed to get me a nice un-issued forestock for my no4 mk2. It does however lack a nose cap so Im trying to get one. What I have never seen is, what, how etc do I attach the nose cap on with when it comes?

Without actually going and getting one of my No.4 rifles out to check, I'll say it is riveted on - but I'm not swearing by that.

What's wrong with friction and the two front band locating cross pins?

Two PINS, cap, fore-end that fit across the fore-end and mate up (? if you're VERY lucky that is.....) with the corresponding holes each side of the CAP, fore-end. They have little stepped flats on either end and these flats face inwards - to face each other. The BAND, upper sits across the flats and it is the band that holds the pins in place if they are loose. Clever eh!

These pins are also the same diameter as the 4BA screws and also the pin, axis trigger and sear and backsight axis pin. All done for simplification

Hopefully, the correct photo will stay this time...

Not a great shot, but the flats on the cross pins mentioned above may be seen.

If the holes don't line up it should be simple enough to sort.

    ETA:

Rats, there's something weird with Photobucket..trying another photo...

So I'm not crazy on that, it does take luck! I worked on a No 4 Mk 2 fore-end last year and in putting a new cap on I couldn't figure out why the pins wouldn't go in. In the end I had to very slightly bow them both in the middle and then they popped right in. I thought I was going to go crazy trying to get those things in

    Please excuse the experimentation:

ETA: The addresses are similar but different. Wondering if some of the tail end isn't getting transferred. Sorry for the OT post, but there's thousands of photos that could be scrambled!
