    Help with Buying

Hey guys ive been looking at different Enfield Riflesicon. I don't have a favorite variant yet so this question might be hard to answer, but what are some things to watch out for when buying. like things to watch out for or better qualities. I understand everyone has there own opinion but is there some basics I should know?

For my money, if it has a matching bolt and has not been otherwise messed with, and if it grabs me and is priced withing reason I buy it. May that's too simple... YMMV

Personally I look for matching numbers on all serialled parts and woodwork that hasn't been messed with. A word of warning on enfields they have a habit of multiplying in very quick order. Buy a gun safe that has plenty of storage capacity. My 5 gun safe currently houses 12 enfields purchased in the last year, so i'm in need of a bigger safe so my rifles have the breathing space they deserve.

All depends what you intend to do with it ? collecting or shooting? and if shooting is for target, hunting etc. Also what price do you have in mind?

You should buy some books too. Go to BDLicon Ltd. and look at Brian's books. Also Ian Skennertonicon who has written the bible on the Enfield, he has loads of books on his site

    For what it's worth:
I'd suggest a WW2-dated No4, and since you are in the USAicon, one made by Savage.
The No. 4 has an aperture rear sight and is easier to shoot as your eyes age (vs. the No 1 rifle which has Vee sights).
The No. 4 is also intrinsically a very accurate rifle.
A WW2-dated rifle has loads of history
A US-made rifle has a special history, and they have (at least to my eye) a nicer metal finish and wood vs. the Britishicon-made No 4s.

Walch: As suggested above, study up on the subject. Based on my own experience, avoid impulse purchases (ie. at gun shows) until you know what to look for. I was fortunate in that my first two or three were purchased from reputable sellers (on-line businesses) whom have proven very reliable in their descriptions and fair in pricing. Got me off on the right foot, so to speak. And face up to the fact you'll need both a No. 1 and a No. 4- no way around it! As I got a bit more knowledgable I actually found the gun shows are an opportunity to (occasionally) find a good deal. My best find so far was a 1917 Enfield No. 1 Mk III* with all matching numbers and a great bore for $250.00 last year. Have fun!

Thanks alot everyone. I'm going to keep shop in around and studying up. My budget is small right now but from what I've read there are good quality rifles that shouldn't be a stretch for me. Thanks for the advice everybody.

Yes Kiwi, my ones are breeding as fast as rabbits must be the NZicon climate. I'll need another gun safe next year....I have to buy a cat a 10 this time.....though a cat E is tempting...the problem is where to put it! let alone the weight.....

You know there is a problem when you need to convert a bedroom in your house as a gun room, and then find this is becoming too small!!
