A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Dear Halehound:
    Welcome to Netherlands collecting.
First, it is a Model 1895 (Dutch Mannlicher)...M1893 was the Romanian design, different in woodwork, bands, etc. from the M95.

Next, there is such a variety of Dutch Mannlichers, especially in the "Carbines/Musketoons" area. Metropolitan, and KNIL (East Indies) Cavalry, Engineers/Artillery/Marechausee (MPs) and so on; and then in the 1920s and 30s, Hembrug Arsenal converted and rebuilt a lot of them.
It is essential to have good photos for ID, and of all the Markings on Metal and Wood.

There is only one good Book on Netherlands Firearms, by Dutch Authors..Hard to get.

    Awaiting Photos,
    Doc AV

It was a mass produced rifle but they are not the most common surplus rifle in the US. An inexpensive book which discusses them in some detail is Mannlicher Military Rifles by Paul Scarlata which is currently in print and available from numerous sources. I believe they have an entire chapter devoted to them. There are a lot of variations due to a long service life, modifications and two versions of nearly every type being built, one for the Netherlands and the other for the colonial troops in the Dutch East Indies. Values for all versions range from $150 for a poor example to $600 for an excellent example with the majority falling about in the middle.

Posting photos is easy, get a free photobucket account, uplosd them to their and then copy the image link and post that here inside the post.

  6. Thank You to Aragorn243 For This Useful Post:

I just sold a KNIL rifle and carbine, both bolt/receiver matching with excellent bores in .303 for 295 dollars each this past weekend.
