    Serial number help :)

Got my new Enfield! Its 1917 Lithgowicon SHT>LE with an A above the logo inside of a shield and a roman numeral 3 underneath. On the upper receiver I see 4MD under that 16196 and under that 82717. On the stock large numbers going across 32383. A gold piece of metal the size of a quarter with I B 51 89... another marking on the stock is MA 3/45. I think I see a shield with a horse in it....and under that 1923.... and another roman numeral 3. So if anyone can take a shot and tell me a little history thatd be great. Id really appreciate it and love my Enfield Id like to think she was used in the trenches but I doubt it. Thanks again tons!!!!!

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I suppose it's easy to mistake a Kangaroo for a horse, but then we are talking about Lithgows, the Ferrari's of the Enfield line.
