And sized so that the bullet is almost a slip-fit on a clean bore.
And use the short-skirt (shallow base) version on a 2-band P1858 Enfield. The long-skirt (deep base) version is for the 3-band P1853 Enfield which has a slower twist.

That would probably have been best, if it was the shallow-base type.

Patrick, I was talking about muzzleloaders. I solder a taller front sight in place of the standard sight. The sights have same profile just taller. In North - South Skirmish Assoc. competition we shoot at 50 and 100 yards. I can take a picture of my Richmond musket if you like.

"In place of" implies that the original sight is removed, something that I would normally avoid. However, since old foresight blades are typically worn down and rounded, sometimes almost to the point of uselessness, it is IMOH an acceptable solution to build up the blade with soft solder, file it to shape, and paint it black. This is a reversible alteration that makes the rifle more usable for shooting.

The front sights are typically soldered on, so removing the original and soldering a new one is not irreversible . N-SSA rules don't allow building up a sight. No, I don't condone doing this to an original arm.

And, heavens for the sake of, don't forget pure lead.... As Patrick says.

I will be going to that thread shortly. Took the barrel off of the PH and it had stamped,"3 1/2 drams BP..577 bullet. 536 grains." Means I will have go to 82 grs of BP as it indiicates. Found the guy that made my prior bullets and he is going to supple me with 100 PHs at $35.00 a hundred.
I agree about the trajectory being howitzer like. My rear sight is marked 1100 yards

Patrick, I see what you are doing with your drawings and I never thought of that (post 180004). Wouldn't your last example allow a higher PO!! (The bull inside the V.)
The front sight top is lower and the front end of the rifle comes up? Or am I seeing something that is not there.? All the bullets I ordered are pure lead and I believe swaged. They are coming from lodgewood.com
