Yes Guys, the sling for N.I use was a 'Popular' adaptation for that Campaign. With the practice of fitting one end to your wrist to 'Prevent' the loss of the rifle in a 'Snatch' attempt. I always erred on the side of caution there, & used to also muse to myself. Mmmm, What might happen if the Rifle was snatched & the 'User' was pulled into the Crowd'?.........He would never be seen alive again!!! Remember the 'Incident', where Two Soldiers were trapped inside a car in a rioting crowd. Armed only with 9mm Pistols?.....Murdered, & the pistols went into the I.R.A 'Inventory'!...........Yep, a HELL of a 'Problem' if the weapon were snatched & stolen. BUT, at least the 'User' would be able to tell the tale. Even if it was at a Court Martial!!!..........

The snatched GPMG was one such incident where the woman actually ran off into the crowd and was spirited away. They watched as she ran off but were not allowed to shoot due to legal reasons at the time. You might remember the incident Gil, Tankie et al. The guidance was that you just can't shoot someone for stealing something........ Don't ask me!
