Ammo shortage end in sight?

It's not much but in the past month I've heard of two stores having 22 rimfire in stock at near pre-shortage prices. I actually got to one of them in time to purchase some. The other I missed by a couple of days.

The local gun shop has had ammo but they are selling way over price or perhaps not selling which is why they have it.

The ammo I found was CCI.

That is VERY good news.!! I'm a truck driver and when I can I stop in fun shops and big box stores and so far nothing in bulk, I refuse to pay the prices they're asking for 50rds.

The "ammo shortage" will never end. Most of the manufacturers have discovered that if they keep things just on the edge, they can keep upping the prices. I actually had dinner with a marketing consultant who is working with a manufacturer at the moment. According to him, they see a constant 30% rise in people buying rounds despite the constant rise in price. Their plan is to push it as far as they can take it. It'll be just like gasoline.

I don't know who your consultant is working for but I am seeing quite a bit of ammo now showing up and the prices are coming down. 9mm is now in the $14 to $15 a box range and .22lr is showing up in dealers shelves. Lots of imported ammo now coming in so the ammo makers will have to lower prices to stay competitive. It will be a little while yet for the stores to be fully stocked and when the hoarders realize that the ammo is available again to stop panic buying. Military contracts are just about done so I really think soon it will be flowing again.

I paid $3.47 for a box of 50 which is about a dollar more than two years ago before all this mess started.

There are things driving this shortage but it isn't a marketing ploy by the ammo manufacturers. Government contracts is one driving factor, another is the panic buying and hoarding. Production is at full capacity. I just can't figure out where it is all going. It never even seems to touch the shelves.

Here in NW Pa, 22s do not exist or for at least very long. Squirrel seasonwill be open and there are a lot of disapointed hunters. I personally like the 12 guage. You get a shower of twigs, branches, bark, and sometimes even the squirrel!

In my area hunting has started to empty the shelves of 30-06, 270 etc... .22 LR & Mag disappear as fast as they appear (when they appear), 9 & 40mm sit for a bit , .45s plenty,.223 (5.56x45) mounded up like cord wood at post panic prices along with the ARs which have returned to pre panic prices and are not selling.

I didn't necessarily mean the price would go up forever, but it will not go down once it levels off.

All I know is I want my $18ish box of 550rds of CCI back so my boys and I can go plinking again. Agreed, with all this imported stuff coming in the prices will have to come down. I tell you where it isn't and that's in reloading components.

I will be interestrd to see if you are correct. I think there are significant market forces putting downward pressure on .223 (556x45) at the least. Cases upon cases at the local sporting goods super store. I think it might come back to sub $9 for 20 pre panic from the current $12.95 per 20 and perhaps .32 cents a round in bulk it continues to constipate the shelves. Granted I am an optimist.
