    SMLE side rail scope mount

Has anybody here ever had, fitted or seen any type of side rail scope mount for a SMLE apart from the original sniper one ?

I,m looking at a side rail mount to fit to a SMLE action I have, its got more holes in the action than a colander and has no charger bridge, so thought of something like a Germanicon SSR or LSR scope mount, I want to keep it period based and also looking at a decent scope also.

Parker Hale used to do one which fitted on the side of the SMLE receiver - had three holes from memory.

Parker Hale "Continental" mount. One of the baseplate fitting was for the No1, but you see very few of them fitted.

Thanks TB, that's the sort of thing I,m looking at, have you any spare ones going? think I,ll go for one the repro mounts (Germanicon SSR LSR, Russianicon PEM side scope mout etc ) on ebay, just wonder how much work to retro fit the base.

I wish they were, actually a rather rare item, I could do with one right now, it would save a fair bit of fabrication.

Are you starting from scratch Muffer or going from a pattern ? It was in another thread that Surpmil quoted the use of a Russianicon PU scope mount, but it was for a No4, but think it would go on a SMLE without too much trouble, I,m borrowing my mates to have a look.

From Scratch, using the three holes that are drilled and tapped, (pity it wasn't a No.4,)that curved side creates hassles, but nothing that can't be overcome.

Thought No4 was a dirty word to you?

I,ve a few more holes, (dont ask about the home made mount, thats what it come like) and one more just visible on the second pic.

I,ve seen one where a plate was produced to counter the curve and the pre-drilled holes and this then used as " a blank canvas"
