Further to that, when we were formulating the drawings for a DP version of the No1 rifle, it was very quickly established that there were sooooooooo many variations of the actual body-side shape and curvature that just designing up the jig used to hold it for machining (and engraving) was a bit of a nightmare. Mind you, it did give the draughtsman and fitter at ITDU workshops a good dollop of overtime! The problem was solved in a quite novel and unique way..............

Someone who shall remain nameless, Ian......, decided that to save a lot of grief and further aggro, they'd simply replace every school No1 rifle that had to be DP'd, whether it was owned by the Army, Navy, RAF or the School Cadet Force with a properly DP'd No4!

The "Field" mounts may seem to be a bit "cheesey", being constructed from an aluminium alloy, however, I have one on my "commercial" Sportco .25-.303. It came with an "Authentic" example of early 1960s Japanese commercial glass.

The Leupold that now resides in the rings has not had its zero move in nearly twenty years of being bumped around the countryside.

Mind you, when I fitted the Leupold, ALL of the screws on the system were given a spot of good old 620 Loctite.

And .25-.303 doesn't exactly shake your fillings out on ignition, either.

I have field mounts on a Lithgow Hornet, 303/.243 and a No5 nothing moves or wanders. The 303/.243 is no ***** cat and has been in solid use since the early 70s and the No5 for nearly as long burning 100 + rounds a week.

That mount has been incorrectly fitted or is not one for that rifle. I forgot that i fitted a Field mount to a Voere .22 back in the early 70s that had been on a No1 Mk3. The person who fitted it to the Mk3 had three goes at getting the holes in the right place (doubt it was right then). How do i know this i still have the rifle my father willed it to me.

It was the one that was part of a kit for the enfield back then so I'd suggest it is the right one. Having said that, it may or may not have been fitted correctly, I wouldn't know but there are only one set of holes. It worked so I didn't think any more of it.
