    USMC & USN markings?

The auction has ended so I assume it is OK to post this.
They listed a Remington 1903 with USMC and USN markings. Has anyone ever seen this before?

    Thanks,

We've seen lots of things marked for USMC and others trying to enhance it's value. Don't know about this one. Looks like it was marked a long time ago though.

I agree with BAR - although I know that auction houses usually do some "screening" of what they sell, I would have liked to know a little more about the rifle before I would have bid on it.

Looks to me like the marks were made with individual stamps. I think they are most likely fake.

It has been my experience that U.S. Weapons are rarely "service" marked (USN, USMC, etc) other than at the factory as part of a contract for that service. In such cases they are generally uniformly applied (font, location). US Army marked M1911 pistols jumps to mind. More common are "organizational" markings within a service (A Co./ 3 BN, U.S.iconNew Jersey, etc.). I would treat the markings on this rifle as a null factor, since they are small, to negative in any valuation.
