Sorry I never thought to seek this information on oilers on Milsurps. My photos of this rifle were removed I believe. I assume this is to free up space. Anyway I have attached further photos. This is an all matching gun (furniture/nosecap/sights etc) and bore is 10/10 which is a huge bonus these days. I can take some close ups of the specific markings if anyone wishes.

It was actually an accident and many pics were lost. Nice to see these back.

Thanks Jim. I forgot to add photos of the bolt. There appears to be an overstamp on the bolt serial number for the last two of the four digits or they hit it harder with the punch? the 1st 2 digits look to be legitimate so not sure what happened there? Could be a replacement bolt but the 1st 2 digits seem to match in font to everything else on the gun.

What we can't see, is whether the stock pin against the band is present.
Numbering the cocking piece was an early thing, soon abandoned.

Any idea on when they stopped, my 1911 BSA MkIII has the s/n on the cocking piece

Called the outer band stop pin, discontinued in 1909.

Yes and 1912 were numbered also

I don't remember these pics first time round, what an absolutely stunning rifle, an absolute dream find...

It could only be improved by the addition of a period leather sling....
