I just submitted my first order for an M1 Springfield. I can't wait to receive it.
The paperwork was pretty simple.

The paperwork is actually the easy part, much harder waiting for your order to be filled and shipped! I've taken the 3 hour trip from Atlanta to the CMP South store in Anniston, AL and handpicked my Mossy M44US. Be sure you weigh the option of having your rifle shipped vs. taking it home with you. Many times having it shipped beats the heck out of paying the 9% Alabama sales tax. I have a '43 Garand, SC 1903A3, and a M44 US from them and not once been disappointed.

CMP auction
I was able to buy on auction some nice four digit 1903's and had the early parts to rebuild them to pre WW1 era rifles. Not worth a lot but I really enjoy them and have shot sub caliber chamber inserts in 32 cal at pistol range distance - they are quite accurate too.
The CMP pays the shipping on auction items right to your door, that is nice service
