    Stacking swivel?

I just received a 1898 rifle today. The stacking swivel stays back and wont swivel. The ring of the stacking swivel is not round and wont allow it to swivel. This is my first Kragicon so I Have no idea if that's correct. I could remove and file it but don't wont to ruin piece if it is correct.

Also the pin that goes through the stock at the lower band is missing. Where could I find a replacement and is this just drifted in?

First of all, are you stating it only moves inline with the barrel? There is no other rotational plane that it moves in. To the best of my knowledge, the Kragicon stacking swivel has no flat portion of the circle. On the other hand a 1917 does have a flat portion. Just a guess, but maybe it was replaced in error. Again just inline movement no rotation. The lower band pin is blued and .1" in dia.x 1.056" in length with rounded ends. At least according to Joe Poyers Krag book. If you can't find anything maybe a finishing nail cut and ends blacked might work. John

A little piece of salvaged steel rod of about the right diameter would suffice. I used tiny finishing nails on a repro forearm that I didn't wish to mess up by drilling through crooked. Looked and functioned ok, wouldn't do it again as I have drill press now. If you find a repro forearm, the right size piece of steel is something you'll need, the forearms don't come drilled.

Why would I touch either band? I was just talking about the upper band swivel itself and where to get a retaining pin for the lower band.

John. I know stacking swivels don't move side to side, they just move in-line. This one just stays pointed back toward the lower band. I never owned a Kragicon so I didn't know if that was correct.
