    L42A1 sniper accessories...spotting scope

Was there a registry of the type of scope issued with the L42A1?
I have the serial number of the scope that was issued with my rifle set, but as there might have been more than one type of scope issued, does anyone have access to the register listing the type of scope by the rifle serial number or from the actual scope number???
What a thrill it would be to locate it.
Anyone have any info on the chest markings as well???

From your picture it looks as though yours is a 1st Battalion Queens Regiment, as Gill has stated. I would agree that the chest looks to have come from the Tanning Wing, and was 23 of 31 when the regiment was in transit. To me it looks as thought the rifle number is the V3973 but the rest is covered with a bit of paper.

I also have a Queens Regiment L42A1 Rifle with CES, but mine is from the D Company 3 Queens and has markings from the HQ. I have enclosed some markings of my chest, which might help you.

THANK YOU !!!!! From a tag attached to mine I think it might be C company but will post a photo of a tag that was inside later today.
I have a bit of trouble logging in and also a bit of a computer problem. It is local and not the sites fault. I often have a problem when it gets very cold (minus 30 to 40 C) or wet and we have had both this week.
    Thanks again and more later.

Dan, that's an interesting snapshot in the rifles life, BFPO 801 is Northern Ireland, I think. All eight of the battalions L42's were deployed.

usual DSDA Donnington label including the part number date, B-54 = a secure location (we used to call it 'lock-up stores') and full standard = complete to CES on the packing date of May '88

I love this stuff, its like a pub quiz. Anyway, I can conclusively confirm that the white label relates to the following, because I am in and out of those stores regularly in my other life dropping off stuff I design for the Military!!!!

B1/1005999652387 = This is the early NATO stock number for RIFLE 7.62
QTY 1 = Clearly Quantity held in that particular chest
DON- B54 MAY 1988 = DONNINGTON and B54 is the SECURE LOCKUP STORES and the date they entered the stores
FULL STANDARD = Case has item enclosed

The LOCKUP stores are like Fort Knox and only those cleared can enter.

The rest marked on the labels on the attached pics as Peter said, could be any Platoon or Company Identifier marks

Hope that helps, and no I can't get any spares for rifles

    Warren,

If you are lucky you may be able to see a unit marking that looks something like A12345A, on my chest this was on the top left hand reinforcing strut on the lid. These are normally covered in heavy black paint, or Green pain. This will have the unit number called UIN. I have managed to confirm the number found on mine, to confirm it was the D Coy 3 Queens, some have them some don't so don’t be worried if you cannot find it but worth looking for. If you can find the BFPO numbers, these will give an indication of where it has been.

Oh before i forget............ please post some more pictures of the chest and the rifle / scope tin would be helpful too
