    Critique my scoped Garand

    Hey Guys,

I bought a CMPicon upper rear hand guard and mounted a scope on my Garandicon. I'm new to Garands and new to scopes, so not sure I got the right stuff. I ordered a Burris 2.75X scope based on a recommendation on the CMP forum. The rings I bought interfere with the iron sights, so I guess that one I got wrong off the bat.

I would appreciate advice on what to do as far as making this a better shooter with a scope. I can already see the long eye relief could be an issue. I just got it assembled tonight and have not had a chance to shoot it yet.

    Thanks!

Is that a long eye relief scope, or a pistol scope?

Strange, you should be able to see through that. Are the rings too low? Can you not get look unders?

That's what I'm saying. There's a set that are high enough to see under. Don't know how well the scope will work out though. You end up with your head a long ways up with those rings.

I think it is fine just the way it is. You don't need BUIS unless you are hunting big game in Africa. The great thing about the scout scope setup is that you will never NEED to use iron sights. The scout mount for the M1icon rifle has to be raised at the front to compensate for the barrel taper; even without installation of higher sights, you may find that you need to install a stock with a higher comb, which you would probably need to have custom made. Any higher, & you will have to shoot like a prairie dog.

If you just MUST have BUIS, the best approach is to install an M1D barrel & mount.

you may find that you need to install a stock with a higher comb,

Cheek rest might be cheaper and just as beneficial?
