    Model 12 riot questions

I have a Winchester Model12 that is U.S. flaming bomb marked and in the riot configuration. It has a 20" barrel with cyl bore, matching serial numbers 989620. This was passed down to me by my father who got it from his father that maybe bought it in an auction about 50 years ago. When my dad got it it had the sling swivels on it, he did not like them and cut them off with a grinder. I was looking around today trying to find a replacement set of swivels and a sling but read many posts saying the model 12 riot didn't come with sling swivels. This one has the attachment in the stock which is marked WB plus another military mark and original. The front barrel band clamps onto the barrel, hold the mag tube and has a place for a swivel. I always thought that this was a riot original and complete just like when it was in service, just with the sling cut off. Can anybody chime in with any other specifics that may shed some light on the origins of this gun. Also what is my best bet for picking up replacement swivels. Thanks!

    Hopefully my pics show up.

The front swivel isn't right. It's been welded on but I can't see it...the back is correct for a trench(perhaps). The font of the numbers on the front looks different to the rear and misaligned...there are some here that will chime in shortly though. A couple will know for sure right away. Welcome to the neighborhood...

    Model 12 riot questions

Thanks for the welcome. I don't think the front swivel is welded on the marks you see are from a grinder taken to it to get the sling off. It does have some finish wearing off of it as wells. Here is a better pic

The swivel is stamped with a 12 on the flat side, facing the receiver. Since I had it apart I also found date on the barrel of 42. I have noticed the font of the serial number but with all of the other markings I didn't think much of it.

That looks better. Much...the front one just should need the "wire" and the back one can be replaced as a whole. Still these others I spoke of will be along to help...

    Exclamation

I think you'll find the rear sling swivel on Epay ($18) and Liberty Tree collector ($12). They are the same as used on the 1903 Springfield and the Tommy gun. Look for a milled one!!
An appropriate sling would be either the leather (M1907) or cloth one (Sling, gun M1icon (webbing)).

not the same as 1903s.. same as 1928 Thomsons...
a genuine trench gun swivel can set you back 40.00 and up.

looks like it was a trench gun, and had the barrel replaced. and a hole drilled in the mag tube. and was converted to a hunting shotgun
