I blew it up too, with my eyes that is still hard to read.

What does Firing pin: round, marked “W”, Winchester mean? Type 1, 2, or 3?

Still, worn shooters are going $700-$900. Interested in what the final price winds up being.

That is almost a twin to my 5,701,XXX Winchester. IIRC, there was mixed usage of stocks with and without WRA over GHD in the transition period. Examples of both have been seen.

Jim, I can see the "EW" - it's there.
Could the butt plate be a well worn Saginaw "Missing Dot"?

    GolfBravoUSMC,
Here is a link to some Buttplate ID's, though I m sure there are errors:

A link here back to the auction and Buttplate in question:

Buttplates can really vary depending on how they were made. I seem to find some odd ones at times.
Many of us believe the dot missing @ 5 means a Saginaw plate, but more advanced collectors have stated the plates made by Springfield Armory had that same pattern.

    Cheers,

    Mid-Late RMC:

    2 Stan Pro S-S3:

    One stamped inside out:

    Early Inland-Early Underwood:

    One 'Pimped by Bubba'

    Another I can't explain:

There are some that show up often, that we just aren't sure of what origin?

Seller also has one of the James River/Rock Ola's at a buy it now for $1,195.00.
To me a used GI has so much more character!
This would be like buying a 'Twonkie'

I blew it! Was looking at the spacing of the dots above and below the screw and missed the "missing dot." Thanks! - Bob

    Thanks Charlie-Painter777

I went to the Chestnut Ridge site and I have an issue with their ID of Late Winchester. I believe it is a Third version of a Inland as described in the Riesch book page 112 top of table 4-5.

I think I'll take some pictures of my inventory and see what you all think I have vs what I believe. I've got a lot to learn.
