    Sterling

I'm thinking of getting a parts kit to have a Sterling, and have it as a MBR. I am new at this sort of thing, so it would be helpful if you could tell me what I need to do to have this project finished.

Great choice of gun. On the RESTORING OLD MILSURPS thread there is currently running a project to do a similar thing with a Mk5 Sten gun. Same meat, different gravy as they say and in the first instance I'd suggest chatting with him and see what he says. He seems to have it down to a fine art.

Hey........ If you do start the project, please do one of those pictorial essay type of things and keep us all informed of the progress.

There seems to be lots of interest in the little Sterling gun on this site

I will be honest, my facination with the Sterling comes from watching the Star Wars movies, but i also like it because it's compact and continues the STEN family. I've been deliberating with myself on whether or not to get a parts kit or buy an ready built one and go through the hoops to have it become a SBR.

do you happen to have a link for the man working on that project?

Do I have a link......... You're talking to a total computer idiot here so the answer is no. But being a mechanical engineer, I'll suggest the mechanical way! Go onto the page I suggested , look up private message, click, write it and press send!

You might give Wiselite Arms in Texas a call. They built many semi-auto Sterlings from good kits that were marketed by Century Arms and others in the past several years. They were quite reasonably priced too and worked well. You could probably pick one up and then register it as an SBR if you wanted. The Mk.6 with a 16" barrel shoots like a .22 rifle out to 200 yards!

It's a superb SMG. I am surprised there's not a section here devoted to it. You are the world's authority on Sterlings. There's nothing that comes close to your GoD book. It's the Bible for Sterling owners. One would think this site would take advantage of your vast knowledge of Sterlings.

There's a strong Sterling following here in the States.

Well, I got in touch with them and they currently aren't planning on building any more sterlings until next year. I'm going to have to try and find someone else who is possibly selling them, but I am having a lot of trouble with that since no place is selling them. does anyone here know of a place where they could maybe build them?

Wiselite were the only folks I know of that were building them in any kind of quantity. They did some very nice Bren semi-auto builds too. I would think some of the guns built by Wiselite and marketed by Century Arms would come up from time to time second hand. You might try keeping an eye on Gunbroker and other auction sites. Another option might be to find an original Mk.6 and register it as an SBR if the short barrel is what you want.
