need help.how to remove boiled linseed oil

Ok so i did a dumb thing. I recently purchased a 1934 hex Mosin and removed the old cracking shellac and replaced it with BLO. Now i want to remove the BLO without sanding. i already removed the top layer with turpentine and rags but there is still some soaked inside the wood. (did approx. 8 coats of BLO) I wan't to refinish it with Tom's pine tar mix. Would furniture stripper work ?

Did you try acetone? Furniture stripper should work too.

I've used citristrip to remove all sorts of old finishes. It's quick, easy, not harmful to your or the environment and makes the house smell like oranges. Spray it on, let it sit for 15 minutes, rinse and repeat once or twice more and then let dry. I've never specifically used it on BLO as BLO is what I always replace what was on it with but it removes deep cosmoline.

I have used hot water and mild detergent with no ill effects to remove linseed oil and residual cosmoline.

I believe you will find the residual BLO compatible with the Tom's Mix. Use a soft-bristled nylon scrub brush to work it into the wood, rub well and repeat as desired. Please post pictures.

Not certain how it would work on BLO. but I have had good luck on cosmoline and grunge with Murphys oil soap ,warm water and a tooth brush.
