CMP Carbine ammo
CMP has two Carbine ammo's available. Aguila in 50 round boxes and surplus 1350 rounds in an ammo can.
I shot some Aguila a while back and it seemed a bit under powered. Has anyone recently ordered the 1350 round can of surplus Carbine ammo from CMP? If so can you tell me the markings, condition, function?
Just curious, I ordered two cans this morning, they said probably two weeks processing and delivery to California.

The email newsletter from CMP stated that it is Lake City from 1990-1992. I recall reading a follow up that the years were actually in the early 70's, but can't find it on my computer, so I can't be sure. But, regardless of year, Lake City carbine ammo is primo stuff; if I needed any carbine ammo, I would jump at that offer. I would suspect that it is the last we will see offered by CMP.
I assume that the ammo is loose, which may or may not be the case. I've bought several cans from CMP, but it's always been in 10 rd stripper clips & bandoliers.

I bought 2 cans when first offered about 3 months ago. It is 1971 production (L.C. 71 headstamp) in 50 round boxes. great clean shooting ammo.

CMP website is not listing LC ammo now, only Aguila (sp?) & Federal, as far as I can see. Must have sold out.

Thanks Neal and Karl. Looking forward to getting it.

Go to this page. Click on ammo surplus. It's $540 for 1350 plus $29 shipping. Which would be about $21.07 a box.

The listing is back in the EStore listed under Ammo Surplus. I received a can last week, LC 71 headstamp. Ammo looks like new, boxes are like new and the can is like new. Can has lot number paint stamped on it. The can was sealed tight like it hadn't been opened since 1971.
I got a can last from year's go-a-round same condition LC 72. I have shot a few hundred rounds of it with no problems at all.

I've shot quite a bit of LC '71 and LC '72 bought at gun shows several years ago. It shot nice but when I went to reload it, the primer pockets had a hard to remove white residue. I can't remember if this was on both headstamps or just one, but I believe both. If you aren't paranoid about primer pocket cleaning, I guess it wouldn't be a problem. I've never heard anyone else mention this, but it must have had something to do with the primers they used during that time perioid. - Bob

Jim:
The can that I got last year was 50 round new boxes ( not repack) in a new large ammo can. It was LC72 if I recall. The only downside is that it attracts a magnet. It shoots very well in my carbines. I would take it over anything else except genuine WW2 spam stuff.
