1903 Feeding Issue

I have a 1903. Regardless of ammo type military etc. I can load up the magazine and the first rounds feed fine. The last one is pushed forward by the bolt, but will not enter the chamber. If I put one round in the magazine the single round will feed fine the majority of the time, but there are times it will not feed.

Any ideas???

Magazine spring? Is it the correct spring? How about the follower?

It has a milled follower. Spring looks correct.

What does it not do?
Is the last round going towards the chamber, or does it angle off to one side? If the follower spring is from another type weapon, it can make it nosedive or angle up. From what you describe, the angle of the follower could also be wrong, milled or not, are you absolutely positive it's from an '03? People have been known to mismatch P-17 and Lee Enfield springs/followers into these weapons, check again.

That's where I am with this too. Maybe you could take pics for us. We won't be able to measure spring strength though.

Here are the photos.

As you can see the last round is to the right side and binds in the rifle. To get it out I push the round slightly forward with the bolt and depress the follower. All other rounds before the last round feed with no problem.

I'm hoping Chuckindenver checks this out. He works on these all the time. The last round looks like it's in the right place though. How does it bind? Does it nose into the feedway? I wonder if your spring is hooped?

That is as far as the round will go. It is in a solid bind the moment the bolt tries to move the round. You can see the bolt pressing behind the round in the picture.

Pull the spring and check for a letter near one tip . An "E" or a "W" would be a 1917 spring . A "R" would be Remington which could also be 1917 . Not sure if the early Remington '03 mag spring were also " R " with little " loopies " at the turns or if they had no " loopies" like the later '03A3 springs . Also not sure if Springfield and RI stamped thiers or not.
