during their fight among the wrecked homes and rubble of Naha, capital city of Okinawa island, Sixth Division Marines are pinned down by the fire of the Japs. They take cover behind a wall and one peers cautiously around the corner to see what is ahead of them.

Which always causes me to think a lot of photographs are staged.

Unless the photog is standing in another doorway.....bit hard to shoot back with a camera, Aussie war photographer Damian Parer spent a lot of time with US troops eventually being killed whilst with them in the field

So I am looking at the middle bloke with what appears to be a grenade launcher on his carbine and what appears to be a grenade behind his helmet on top of his pack.

One grenade. HE (O.D.) and one smoke streamer (grey).... The guy with the M1icon rifle also has a signal in its tube on top of his pack.

I sure would swap those popguns for an M1icon Rifle.
