When reading "War Baby" I get the impression that Winchester only bought components (receivers and stocks) from Underwood. Did they also buy up parts from other companies?

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. War Baby III pages 1126-1127 shows Winchester used receivers with AW code - Underwood, BW code - Singer. Also Underwood line outs coded W - Universal Winding, BA - Singer. And non coded Underwood line out from Underwood.

Also they have a small list of integrated parts shown in War Baby page 334.

Thanks Jim. I was aware of the various types of Underwood receivers purchased. I'm more interested in what if anything they did with other companies. For instance did they buy Rockola or NPM parts, or IBM stuff?

WB shows integrated parts from Inland, I.B.M., NPM, Saginaw Steering Gear, Std Prods, and Underwood. Stocks (1,500) from NPM. Most of the others were springs, pins, some slides, hammers, and extractors from others.
