crazy day at gun show today came home with a argentine

crazy day at gun show today. started out late due to wife sickness. but you got to love a wofe who said go to show. so after a late start i stopped at a garage sale right down road before show. bought a spike smle bayonet an a beat m8 no scabbord for 20.00. went to show looking for some ammo not realy looking for a gun. stopped to sell bayonets to a guy who told me he had more than he needed. went to leave an spotted a argentine 1891 mauser 7.65 that has a ugly carving of a pistol on the side of the stock. show was so slow paid 80.00 for gun an 20.00 for 100 rounds of ammo. rifle got matching no crest is present. blueing is 80%. bore looked real black. stock missing top hand guard. an no cleaning rod. got home had to clean it bore came out perfect. checked everything out looked great. went out back bagged it down an check out no signs pressure at all fired a 4 shot group at 50 yards about a 4 inch high an 2 inch wide group. will post pictures soon as i can hope i did good. wife even said i told you to go.

I don't see how you coulda passed that up for $80 bucks, what a Score !!! Congratulations !!
I have two 1909 Carbines in 7.65x53. What a great cartridge! just started loading for it. 150's and 180's, the 180's shoot better (1-1/2" @ 50 and 3" @ 100) with military iron sights.
I also have some 200's in cast lead w/gas check (haven't tried those yet). Wife was right "You did Good" future posts with that one.

    shot it

after run about a thousand patches with gi bore cleaner thru it took it back to range got a great group at 50 yards off bench. at 100 yrds was not to good. seams like the 1947 ammo might be at fault. only had 2 no goes out of a 50 round box so i dont think thats too bad. working on a set of dies right now for it

Midway has dies - Lee Pacesetter 7.65 Argentineicon Mauser; I have a set and they work great !
Glad you got to shoot it ! Both of mine will put 5 under 2" @ 50 yds and 4" @ 100, with military iron sights. I still need to tailor some loads, I think (hopefully) I can bring them down a bit.
Next time you shoot it... run some rounds through it and then run wet patches while the barrel is still hot, that will take out years of dirt !!
