"C" in a circle stock and body stamp.

On another forum, a member posted up pictures of his new to him No4MkI. Interestingly enough, it has not a oval C stamp, like we have seen on many Canadianicon No4MkI rifles, but a circle C. Definitely a circle too. C is standard capital serif C. Heads have pondered over this marking, but no answers yet. It is marked on the fore end and on the buttsocket under the serial. Rifle is a 1943 vintage Shirley product with an AT xxxx series serial number. Any of you bright lads have an idea? I thought it might be marked for center bedding.

    Thanks.

    Hi Hal,
I have a No4 Mk2 with the serial number N1767 also marked similar to your one. All the woodwork is numbered as well. This rifle originally came from a retired NZicon Navy Captain, and the story goes it was built especially for competition shooting. I have tracked down another similar marked rifle here in NZ. I have no idea where, or how many were made!! Stuart.
