This is the buttplate tang on my Germanicon capture 1889 Belgian Mauser, and am trying to find some answers to the markings. First two rows are the original Belgian marks....'N' and '7945'. I understand the letter is a code for what type unit the rifle went to, but can't find any info on letter designations. '7945' would be that unit's inventory number. Next two rows are the really interesting ones...it's either 'A.P. DEUTSCHE' or 'A.D. DEUTSCHE', or the first two letters are something else entirely. Last word is definitely 'DEUTSCHE' however. Again, can find no references to this type of 'capture' mark. Has anyone seen this? Have it on a rifle of their own and know the significance? Would really like to figure this one out. Below is really horrible pic taken with my really horible camera.
