    JUST for FUN: Silly Mistakes

Hi, I am enjoying the forum after not having been on it a while. I thought I'd ask this question to see what we'd get. Just for fun. It might be interesting too!

After I placed this in another thread on here about a paratrooper carbine, I got to thinking....Along the way we learn things during collecting. HAS ANYONE MADE SILLY MISTAKES WHEN BUYING CARBINES? Here is just ONE of mine below!

I traveled from St Louis to Springfield MO, to go get a 'Rock Ola' carbine, only to find when I got there it was a Quality Hardware with a rock ola barrel and a rock ola recoil plate. But I bought it anyway because he discounted the price a bit. After this I learned to check the serial number against what it 'should be'...

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). A local gun shop had just purchased several rifles from an estate. There were (4) M1icon Carbines to choose from. I picked out the one that looked like it had never been used - nearly "new condition." It turned out to be an Arlington Ordnance "refurbished" with an import mark. Probably more of a dumb mistake than a silly one. - Bob

    My turn

I was in a hurry and saw this on a table at a show, I thought wow that's cheap $50.00 then I got it home and really started looking it over. It's the one in the middle.

Mine was a stock too. I found a nice condition stock on a table for $30 and bought it for a builder, then walking away realized it was a Universal with rectangular T-house hole. Oh well it ended up okay for the welded receiver project I built with a Universal trigger housing I already had.

The biggest mistake I ever made with a carbine, was not buying a truck load of them, back when they used to be 3 for $100.
    What was I thinking?
