"Stainless Steel" M1
I have what I believe is a Stainless Steel M1. It is from Springfield Armory Ser. No.3535467. Its in very good condition and the parts are S A marked except the bolt and its H R A. I found a thread on this board about this "stainless" rifle but can't find it again. The sling swivels, butt plate and front band what hold the sight and rod cylinder are not bright. I can't find any arsenal marks on the stock - don't know if there are suppose to be there.. Any information will be appreciated.

M1s are not stainless steel. That rifle would have been made in ...'45? Maybe February? Don't know where that info would have come from. Is the receiver in the white? If so, then it need a re-park...

Jim, thanks, the receiver and all the rest except what I mentioned have been left "bright." It does not belong to me, a friend asked me to find out what I could. I was wondering if it could have been a parade rifle. But then if it had been all the parts would have been "chrome or stainless." I'm not an M! collector but I do have three. I'm not interested in buying it but he is asking $1200 for it. Is that anywhere near the going price? Thanks

Not for a rifle with no finish that I can determine. The parts, although SA marked are probably a mixmaster and if the outer has been polished with a 240 grit polish wheel, it's going to be lacking some detail...I wouldn't pay more than $500 or so, because it needs a re-park and who knows what else?

Probably a chromed parade Garand and IMO not worth half of what he is asking

You all seem to agree so I adhere to your judgment and will inform my friend. Thank all of you.
