    This BSA Started It....

I may not post here much but I do lurk a lot. So I finally decided to share one of the rifles from my collection. This rifle is dear to me, no other way to put it. My dad bought this No 1 Mk III* for me when I was 15. It was my first high powered rifle and got me hooked on Enfields. It is a 1917 BSA Mk III*. Eventually the beat up wood gave up the ghost and I restocked it in an Indian DP wood set from Springfield Sporters. It may be a mutt, but it's a mutt I love dearly. It has taken many a deer and the sentimental value is even more important.

Very nice! My first high-power was also an Enfield, also at the age of 15. A MkIII*, 1918, Enfield. It had been professionally customized by Sir Bubba, and had the forend cut down. It looked like bubba chewed through the wood to make it a "sporter." Loved that rifle, and used to shoot coyotes in the desert with it. So long as they were within 100 yards or less, the went down. Sold that rifle years ago. Miss it, too.

    Very nice Mutt!

I guess we each started much the same way. My first was a 98k Mauser, when I was 16. A gift from my parents. It's still in the collection, along with about 60 Mauser brothers and cousins.

"Give us the boy and we will show you the man" I believe the Jesuits used to say.

A full wood SMLE in the woods of South Dakota must raise a few eyebrows!
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.

It certainly does, Surpmil. Over the years I have had to explain what it was many, many times. Just part of the fun though.
