    Transport Museum Wanaka NZ

    Just back from the land of sheep and we again attended the above for the 2nd time and you need a full day really to take it all in as it is that big, full of all kinds of stuff. Of not was a Centurion Tank we saw last time 8 years ago but I was not on this site then.
    To be blunt this place has it all and then some and to boot it is privately owned by one person the other inclusions since our last visit was the Valentine which is just a shell and has been gutted inside.
    The plane near the Bren gun carrier I think is a Lockheed Hudson but seriously it isw that big and of interest also is the Meccano Block placing crane of which there are very few complete known examples in the world.
    This is because of the period early 20's 30's I think and the amount of parts required to complete the crane people could not afford it anyway worth a look.
    I take a crap pic so excuse the 60's type get up I was a tourist!

    Managed to get some more loaded up any clues on the serial No. on the Centurion.

    That Valentine looks like it was the Valentine that was parked up outside the tennis courts at Ngaruawahia and used by the kids as a bit of a plaything. So said, it was going to be a gate guardian at the front gate but nobody ever got round to tarting it up. So the two 37mm anti-tank guns stayed there.

    'Ditto' Jim... You said a lot there as far as I feel...

    It makes this site feel like more of a 'family' when I see members post photos of themselves with the equipment, etc....

    I'm 57... I think the demographics of our site is of older people because of their knowledge and experiences. No need of being ashamed of being older... We fought hard to get older... I get enjoyment from being older and helping others who ask questions.

    My son thinks I get stupider as I get older. But not so stupid when something in his car was whirrrrrring when it should have been engaging something. THEN saved him £-plenty when I skimmed out his rattly alternator bearing and replaced it with a larger diameter more reliable rollers.......... Not so stupid now am I Robert! Older but wiser AND cleverer!

    I agree 57 is a good vintage being one myself and I agree with Peter L ;
    A short long story- My son shoots with us on the range (15y/o) and uses a custom built .223 I taught my wife to reload her rounds and am teaching my son to do his as the pressure of me loading for 10 rifles apart from those 3 rifles I shoot F class, Field and Military this was tying me to the presses late at night so stuff that I have to be on milsurps I says.
    Anyway I started with the primer pocket cleaning, oh no that's to hard and menial off he trots so frustrated at the attitude I named him a "Trigger Gripper", anyway six months later he has had his first go at prepped cases doing the powder and projies whilst I was sorting out ogive jumps and coals for the records so if something happens to me they will have all the load data for the weapons.
    He at the press pipes up and says "Dad I do not know how you did this for so long with all our (?) rifles and keep it all in your head without going mad it would drive me nuts" to me it was a defining moment that he is realizing that for some pleasure there is plenty of pain especially loading 100 cases of match grade 223 ammo. Now he cannot blame me for a shite shot he pulls on a target??????
