Remington Rand 1911A1 1943 Ser 9849XX Mainspring Housing Question

Guys I'm looking at a 1943 Remington Rand with a Du-lite finish, everything seems to appear correct but one thing that I need to confirm is the correct mainspring housing type, on a 1943 in the Clawson guide it says an early Rand would have checkered, late would 8 rib type. Is the 1943 considered to be late or early? Which housing would be correct, cause the 1943 is sporting an 8 rib housing. My gut is saying checkered is correct.

    Thanks, David

For as much as I know on early RR checkered MSH is correct until around #1'360xxx, 1'380xxx (1944) than 8 ribs, to EOP.

Had a similar question too when I came into my Rem-Rand 1911A1.

My research indicated that RR, as a war-time expedient measure, stopped checkering on the MSH and the slide release tab at about the 1.2 mil serial #, switching instead to doing serrations on those parts (or what you call "ribs.")

My RR is an all correct 1.5mil (early '44), and both the SS and MSH have serrations.

Checkered is the only right answer IMO.
