    M1907 Sling Question

I have this M1907 sling. It is was made by Hewes & Potter, Boston MA, is dated 1918 and inspector Marked M.D.C. My question is about the metal staple that holds the sling keepers together (instead of stitches). What is known about these slings?

I think you'll find that keeper is a replacement...I've never seen a military keeper that wasn't sewn, nor heard of them.

The keepers are a mystery. They appear to be as old as the sling and have the same coloration/aging pattern.

A 20 year old well used sling can still look like that. The others will be along shortly to help.
