My "3L" rifle also has a '46 or '47 in the same location. Have also long thought it's a "pre-FTR marking" rebuild mark, or maybe the next level down from FTR. Seems more in tune with pre-WWII rebuilds, which don't seem to feature "FTR" regardless of level of rebuild. Could also be Canadaicon specific. (?)

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. If remember what we have been told here previously, parts are only replaced if they are unserviceable. I would say it is "highly freaking unlikely" that the cocking piece, rearsight, safety lever etc. are NOT original to the rifle. Someone who was replacing those bits would not be likely to leave the rest of the rifle as it is, IMO, even if they could find those parts in a suitably worn condition.

You've got the replacement bolt, sear (lightened 'No5 pattern') and trigger one would expect for such an FTR.

Someone has gone to some lengths to scrub the paint and phosphating off.

Congrats on your fourth is it?
