New-To-Me 1943 BSA Shirley No.4 Mk.1

I love how "been there" this one looks. 1943 rifle made by BSA Shirley. Serial number is very hard to see unless in perfect lighting but looks to be AA4070. The bolt doesn't appear to match. No idea what time of year that puts it as far as production.

When i got it, it was globbed in cosmoline. It very clearly hadn't been fired in years. Interestingly, it had dried old leaves & shrubbery bits under the front hand guard. I can only imagine where and when that happened.

Congrats. Was it very hard to get ride of the cosmo? I've only had to remove it from magazines. I thought it was a pain.

i'm used to removing cosmoline after my Mosin collection grew. old cotton t shirts & rags and elbow grease for the most part and then, for the small metal parts, put them in a pot of water and bring it to a boil. it comes right off. then just dry off thoroughly and it's done. took maybe 90 minutes to completely clean it up.
