The problem for a tyro doing a search of internet posts is "separating the wheat from the chaff". Lots of heat but comparatively little light.

Sedgley did all work on the cheap. They apparently bought low number receivers out of the Phiily Navy Yard and put them on a hot sove in the back of the shop. Heated them very hot and allowed them to cool off. Nothing scientific at all and the US Army avoided them totally. Once in awhile an article about them will surface, few of the authors know what they are talking about. If you have a low number that was burned during the forge process, you own a grenade. There is no way to "fix" them. I own 2 low numbers and do not shoot them. Nice keepers, but now wall hangers.

I own three low numbered ones also and don't intent to shoot them even thought it's obvious they have been shot many times before and survived in one piece. Oops there I go doing it also. Attachment 59854 Ray

I wish I had a low number...4 digit comes to mind. They're artwork compared to the very late ones.

That, I will agree, although the 1930s NM rifles come close. They are works of art, IMHO.
