By serial would this be a late '43, early 44 mfg?

Do you think it would be worth putting a correct Winchester marked trigger group in and finding a correct stock?

    Thanks

The trigger housing probably won't be that difficult however matching wear might. The stock on the other hand will not be as easy and could be quite expensive.

    Bill,
Thanks. I am not opposed to putting money into it as I am only 300 in it at this point. Would any high wood Winchester Stock without re-arsenal stamps be correct for it, and are their variances in the trigger housing I should be aware of?

I agree with the MU on the hand guard. Trigger housing is Underwood as is the mag catch.

The correct stock for your Winchester would be an oval cut low wood with a WRA over GHD on the right hand side. Your problem will be finding one with type one barrel band marks only on the nose. I would not bother buying one that has type 2 or 3 band marks on it, but that's up to you. The correct trigger housing for your Winchester would be pretty easy to find, but like mentioned above match the color tone of your rifle will be tough. BTW, early 44 on the build of your carbine.

I'll keep my eye out for the pieces but I am in no hurry to put it to factory at this point.

I couldn't handle it anymore so I went ahead and took it from its bath and scrubbed it today. Here it is with a '44 Remington Rand to keep it company

Thank you Harlan, they have already been a great help to me. As long as you guys don't tire of pictures I will be around. I seem to acquire things fairly rapidly and always have questions

So as luck would have it one of the Underwood Carbines I picked up had a Winchester Trigger housing and the wear matched pretty well so I swapped that out. That leaves me to find a Winchester Magazine Release and stock now .
