    Serbian Model 1924 stock needed

    Hello,

I recently acquired a Serbian Model 1924 in good condition except the stock was changed out to some generic wood stock.

I am searching for a 1924 stock with the Alexander or Peter cartouches still on it or a M24/47 stock that has the cartouches so I can return this to as close to original as possible.

Would you be able to help or point me in the right direction to possibly find this?

    Thanks,

    -Chris

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Howdy and welcome to the site.
One thing first of all. There is no such thing as a "Serbian" M1924. Serbia did not exist as a separate entity from 1918. The model M1924 was first built under the authority of King Alexander of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats & Slovenes. You will see that marked on rifles sides rails as CXC, Cyrillic for SHS the abbreviation for those republics. Then in early 1929 the kingdom was changed to the Kingdom of Yugoslaviaicon which it remained until the Nazis rolled in in April 1941.

Now, about your stock. I have a CXC M1924 that was in the same boat as yours except it was in an M48 stock. A CXC would only have been correct in a King Alexsander cartouche stock. That took me 10 years and $100 to acquire. But first, I found a 24/47 with a visible cartouche and then for the correct stock, I just stumbled into in good truth.

I would suggest you check auction sites for either type stock as we both mentioned, M24/47 or M1924, even eBay since they do allow and frequently do have listings of gun stocks. You can also watch for 24/47 rifles with a likely stock but, I would not encourage separating a matching rifle from it's stock permanently.

Otherwise, network these forum sites as you have here. I would suggest trying Gunboards Military Mauser forum http://forums.gunboards.com/forumdis...y-Mauser-Forum. That is a very active forum. Another forum site to try would be surplusrifle's Yugoslavian Rifles forum http://surplusrifleforum.com/viewfor...01d4271d36f8c7. That is another active forum and maybe more fertile ground because it will have more sporterizers who might have loose stocks to pass on than Gunboards more dedicated collectors.

Here are some pics of my rifle's progress...
This is how it came to me...

This is how it looks now all proper and correct. I would show more but, I seem to have lost some photos! Anyway, no pun intended, you've got the picture.
