I have seen US Govt scale drawings in 1/72 inch scale for all kinds of WW2 airplanes. During WW2 local schools 7th & 8th grade built these models in wood shop from pine, the plans or drawings were provided from the US Govt. The models were used for aircraft identification, Some schools still had these built models hanging from the woodshop ceiling many years after 1945.
Later there were a hard rubber or bakelite material used fir aircraft identification models (I have some, they are are 1/72 in scale)
