    GCA Journal

Putting the Spring issue together now, but probably still at least two weeks from going to the printer. Some great stuff in it, especially one of the earliest Gas Port rifles yet found. Also very neat is a PERFECT 1958 NM and an expose' of faked CMPicon Collector Grade docs. I really like this issue.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Spring Issue

I was too optimistic on the time frame, we are still in the final layout. The publisher lays out each article, our three editors proof and edit it, the publisher generates a new version and we check that to make sure all the changes have been made. When we are satisfied, he sends the next one. When all the articles have been approved, he sends the first version of the whole issue and we go over it all again, make changes lke moving an article, bigger photos, etc. Then he sends it to our professional proof reader who sends a list of grammar and typographical corrections. I go over her list and determine which corrections we want to make... some are rejected because of personal preferences, conversational phrases, my old-school biases, our own Style Guide (things like US instead of the technically correct U.S.). The publisher makes the changes and generates a new version which we check again... sometimes we reach version 7 or 8 (the record is v10) before we all sign off on it. Then it finally goes to the printer who mails them when done. Despite all that checking, something always slips past us
