Swapping No4 Savage stock - dont think i'll be doing a bad thing

I have a Savage No4 Mk1* in serial range 29CXXXX, that did time as a OZ 1960's fullbore rifle, matching numbers, nice 2 groove barrel with strong rifling, almost little used, and I suspect could be replacement barrel (has vice marks on barrel and condition doesn't match the very well worn condition of the action). But the stock is very sad - cracked thru right side below action area, cracked thru under rear reinforce strap (I know that's not its real name), draws have been patched with hardwood blocks and pegged but one has failed and fully broken/come free, centre bedded on what looks to be piece of scape tin!, under barrel knox and muzzle end of forestock chiselled/opened out, both pieces top wood are bashed around too. But, I have been given a nice unaltered but, forestock and top wood from a Savage No 4 Mk 1 serial range 13CXXXX (barrelled action was scrapped/handed in to authorities, I was only able to salvage everything else). Surely I would be doing a good thing by swapping out my sad old forestock, taking the time to fit the forestock/bedding in the suggested fashion/as it should be (I know its going to be a learning curve but I have to start somewhere) and creating a usable Savage that hopefully can become my standard Service rifle comp shooter and give my Matby's a rest for a while. I like my No4's for shooting not looking at, so figure what I plan is a good thing.

Sort of thing Armourers would do every day of the week. Re-using and refitting an old fore-end was second nature
