Was trying to think what else I,ve seen it on (the finish), so all were waiting for now is a range report...... can't see any issues as I do remember the bore. Its certainly going to turn a few heads....

Aside from the rear sight, your rifle is about like mine. Including the lack of Enfield magazine. The scope number on the heel is a bit odd. Funnily enough, IIRC the rear sight was one of the things that got "upgraded" from the 1931 run. That and the loop removal near the front of the magazine well seem to be the easiest changes to identify. Your rifle still shows a bit of the "1" on the front edge of the last "3" of the 1933 marking. Usually harder to see.

Of my lot of No.4 Mk.I (T)s, the Enfield is the best shooter. Better groups and more stable zero.

I've not seen the scope number marked on the heel before either, but it was done at the same time as the number on the wrist so I'm not too concerned about it.
Any idea why the loop on the trigger guard was taken off?

    Hi Neil,

I would only imagine that by the time the trials rifles were converted to T's, the action cover thinggy was already obsolete or at least obsolescent/redundant so the loop was superfluous. No front trigger guard sling swivel then either so on the T rifle, the loop really was redundant and removed without a thought. Alas where the loop did come in useful, preventing the sling from twisting round on itself, it'd already been removed - never to be replaced because this rifle didn't start its service with a sling loop fitted!

    Just a thought of course

Prevention of the sling twisting may be why its still found on some L42's??????

    Neil,

I'll have a root around in the shed later. I've definitely got some L42 metric rearsights and IIRC I did have a couple of 4T ones too.

    Cheers,

    Simon.

Worth bearing in mind of course that removal of the wire loop was NEVER sanctioned in any EMER or other official instruction that I have ever encountered

    Neil,

I've found a couple of 4T rear sights but they're both Singer I'm afraid.

    Cheers,

    Simon
